Page sponsorship

supportsiteCosts of hosting, licensing, hardware, maintenance and site security continue to increase, so to further maintain and develop this site it needs the support of local organisations and businesses. Page headers are now available to be sponsored on a 6-month or annual basis on a first-come-first-served basis, and with first refusal at the end of the selected term. The following pages are available to sponsor with a top-of-page static banner (468 x 60 pixels). Prices are based on statcounter.com data for the number of views each page received from June 2012 to May 2013 (see a graph here, and for the latest summary statistics, log in to Statcounter with username cheddarvillage and password cheddar). Not all pages are currently available to sponsor. Any un-sponsored spots will be filled with generic Google adverts until a local sponsor comes along.

Advertisers may like to be assured that there is no media corporation behind this “hyperlocal” site, and unlike many other local publications it’s not part of any network of news web sites or newspapers, and has no particular political affiliations associated with it. It’s independent and run by a small business based in the village, providing a valuable news and information service for local residents, visitors and businesses.

Local business margin and banner ads are not affected by web users’ Adblocker browser plug-ins - the local ads just appear on the page like an ordinary image and are not identifiable as an advert by ad scanners (generic Adwords and other affiliate ad schemes are blocked by Adblockers though). So this is a good reason to advertise on here and be sure your ad is being seen.

Over 4000 views - £170 a year, £120 for 6 months

3000-4000 views - £140 a year, £100 for 6 months

1000-3000 views - £90 a year, £65 for 6 months

Under 1000 views - £50 year, £35 6 months

Margin adverts

180marginadYou can only have one page sponsorship (to prevent larger businesses blocking space for others) but you can have a margin advert (180 x 180 pixels) on any number of other pages appropriate to your business. Margin ads cost £42 each / year and will appear as near to the top of the right hand column as possible, after site data and any other advertisers who booked earlier. There is a maximum of 3 margin ad spaces on most pages. If someone chooses not to renew a margin ad, any others on that page will shunt up a place. Animated ads are available for an extra fee. If you think a margin is already pretty full, note that Google Ads and some other items will come off the pages that have margin adverts, as the new ads go on.

Free lineage listings for BS27 businesses are not affected - you can still get one of these in the Business A-Z (although it won’t be as visible as a graphic ad). Some of the more popular free links may attract an interstitial “wait 5 seconds to skip” advert from time to time - these won’t appear if you have a paid ad as well.

To book your paid ad please fill out and send the form below, or just email Martin with details of the page you want to appear on, and a copy of any banner you may already have, or some guidance on how you want it to look. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, card, internet banking or Paypal once the ad is live (details will be sent separately). There is no VAT on any of these prices. Second, third, etc. ad spaces (for the same ad on different pages) will be 1/3 off for the cheapest. Once completed your ad will be seen across the internet with annual site uptime of at least 99.5%. Input is also welcomed from sponsors and advertisers as to how the site could be improved, new features, different layouts etc. which will be taken into consideration.

Please fill out this form with your advertising requirements.

Supporting local community initiatives

This site, although run separately from the My Cheddar portfolio of community projects, is designed to be a non-profit venture and any surplus from advertising that is not reinvested in the site itself will go towards supporting these kinds of ventures.
